ABSOLUT II reaches the 5th Quality Gate
03.06.2026
Two live demonstrations confirm: autonomous, flexible and user-oriented mobility in public transport is ready for the next step.
On the home stretch of the ABSOLUT II project, we have successfully reached the 5th Quality Gate – a significant milestone on the path to autonomous, flexible and user-oriented mobility in public transport.
The focus was on two live demonstrations that showed how far the developed technical solutions have already come – and how close they are to concrete application scenarios in future operations.
Autonomous On-Demand Public Transport in Practice
In the user story "Autonomous On-Demand Public Transport", we demonstrated how demand-responsive mobility can work even in a driverless scenario: autonomous public transport components capture passenger needs in real time, take available vehicles into account, and dynamically adjust routes and stops. This makes visible what we are working on in the project: mobility that responds flexibly to actual needs while remaining reliably integrated into a public transport offering.
Remote Vehicle Access by Technical Supervision
Another central element of the Quality Gate was remote vehicle access by a Technical Supervision authority in accordance with AFGBV. The demonstration covered secure remote access to vehicle controls – from the risk-minimised state through manoeuvre proposals and their approval to manoeuvre execution and subsequent verification. This is an important building block for future regular operations.
Because autonomous mobility in public transport requires more than vehicles that work technically. It also requires clear processes, a robust safety architecture, regulatory compliance and operational transparency.
Technical, Integrative and Operational Goals Achieved
The successful live demonstrations of the 5th Quality Gate confirm that we have achieved the technical, integrative and operational objectives of the project as planned. ABSOLUT II thus delivers valuable foundations for scalable, autonomous and user-friendly mobility solutions.
A heartfelt thank you to all project partners for the inspiring collaboration: ANavS GmbH – Advanced Navigation Solutions, BitCtrl Systems GmbH, FSD Fahrzeugsystemdaten GmbH, glts cotech GmbH, IKEM – Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility, INIT Group, City of Leipzig and Technische Universität Dresden – as well as our associated partners Leipziger Messe GmbH and BMW Group Plant Leipzig.
ABSOLUT II makes one thing very clear: the mobility of tomorrow does not emerge through technology alone. It emerges when we bring together technology, operations, safety and user needs into practice.
