ABSOLUT II successfully reaches its 4th milestone
27.10.2025
At the milestone meeting in Dresden, the project consortium came together to present the developments from the last months and plan the next steps.
This week, the 4th milestone meeting of the ABSOLUT II project took place in Dresden. The project consortium came together to present the current project status and the developments of the past months, as well as to plan the next steps on the path toward autonomous driving in public transport.
Review of the overall system testing
The main focus of the meeting was the review of the overall system testing. The consortium assessed how well the individual system components are already interacting with one another. Among others, the following elements were examined:
• the vehicle and its automated driving functions
• technical supervision
• control center and operational management
• passenger app and backend systems
• infrastructure and communication interfaces
Particular attention was paid to the interaction between these elements – because only seamless integration can ensure a safe, reliable, and scalable overall system.
First integrated functional blocks within the overall system
A major milestone was achieved: for the first time, numerous components were successfully combined into integrated functional blocks of the overall system. This marks an important step toward a connected, safe, and autonomous on-demand operation.
Especially in the planned deployment area – the suburban districts around Leipzig – such an integrated overall system plays a key role in making mobility more efficient, flexible, and future-oriented.
Presentation of results and outlook
In the presence of representatives of the Federal Ministry and the project management agency, the consortium presented the results of the past six months of the project. Alongside the review of progress, the focus was clearly set on the next steps:
In the coming months, the complete system is expected to be tested for the first time in full interaction. This upcoming system integration represents a crucial step toward real autonomous operation in public transport.
