Autonomous driving conference hosted in Leipzig
05.02.2025
The VDV and LVB invited the public transport companies to Leipzig for a conference and workshop on autonomous driving in public transport.

Together with the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) organised a specialist conference about autonomous driving in public transport in Leipzig at the beginning of February. Together with leading players in the public transport business from other transportation companies and other projects, they discussed how autonomous driving could be integrated into public transport in an economical and sustainable approach. In addition to presentations about the current global situation and potential business models, a workshop was held to shed light on important issues and to discuss possible courses of action.
The conference was an important step towards exchanging information about the autonomous driving projects already underway in many areas of German public transport and establishing concrete next steps.
Innovative solutions with ABSOLUT
The ABSOLUT project actively supports this development. Autonomous on-demand shuttles offer innovative solutions, especially in suburban areas: They complement existing public transport services, realise an important feeder function and contribute to the mobility transition and climate protection. The aim is to open up new areas and sustainably improve mobility for everyone.
Ulf Middelberg, Speaker of our Management Board, summarises: ‘We have driven forward the development of autonomous driving in public transport for the city and for the transport industry. We have now been able to exchange experiences and agree further development steps in Leipzig. The transport industry is ready for the next leap in productivity. Industrial implementation should now be the focus for politics and funding projects.’
